Ring collection still growing
A miniature 1929 VPI class ring was recently donated to the university's ring display collection by Lawanda Pryor Watts Billingsley of Mechanicsville, Va., whose uncle, Pryor Lindsay Watts (electrical engineering '29), originally gave the ring to his future wife, Lawanda Clara Watts. The Class of 1929 had the university's first known miniature class ring. Miniature rings were often given by a male student to his favorite girl and were occasionally used as engagement rings. Another ring from the Class of 1946 was recently donated by Robert Preston Dickinson.

These recent donations have been added to the Class Ring Display in the Williamsburg Room of Squires Student Center. Still needed are men's rings for the years 1911, 1915 through 1919, 1924, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1932, 1934, and 1935, as well as miniature or women's rings for the years 1930 through 1936, 1938, 1941, 1947, 1953, and 1963. Anyone wishing to donate a Virginia Tech class ring to the Alumni Association, please contact Laura Wedin at 540/231-6285 or Lwedin@vt.edu.
