Thomas Adriance, 2/15/96. Adriance, 58, was associate department head of the history department until health problems forced his retirement in July. A charter member of the Virginia Tech chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, Adriance came to Tech in 1968.
Leonard J. Currie, 4/23/96. Currie, 82, was head of architecture at Virginia Tech from 1956 to 1962. He designed the "Pagoda House" in Blacksburg, named to the National Register for Historic Places. Joseph Baker Dent Sr., 5/6/96. Dent, 91, of Petersburg, was profesor emeritus of engineering fundamentals.
GEN David Henderson, 2/17/96. Henderson was appointed commandant of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets in 1972 and served during the time the corps first admitted women.
Clayton Ernest Holmes, 4/25/96. Holmes, 91, a professor of poultry science, was instrumental in developing a wingless chicken.
Thomas Miller Jenkins, 12/24/95. Jenkins, 70, was an associate director of undergraduate admissions. He was president of Albany State College in Albany, Ga., and Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.
John Johnson, 2/16/96. Johnson, 59, came to Virginia Tech in 1968 to teach and do research in anaerobic biology. His work, which makes it possible for doctors to quickly identify bacteria that cause microbial infections or diseases, earned him the 1980 Bergey's Manual Trust Award. The Pasteur Institute named a bacterial species for Johnson, and W.E.C. and Lillian Moore named a bacterial genus for him.
John F. Siau, 4/15/96. Siau, 75, was an adjunct professor of wood physics in the Department of Wood Science and Forest for the past three years.
Mildred T. Tate, 3/10/96. Tate, who came to Virginia Tech in 1937, served as head of the department of home economics and dean of women. She was a pioneer in providing opportunities for women at the university.
