Alumni association installs officers

Nancy Bowman Sauer (IEOR '84) becomes the first woman to serve as national president of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. She is a regional marketing manager for Standard and Poor's Compustat and resides in Englewood, Colo. William E. Skelton (AGE '40), dean emeritus of the extension division, is the association's new president-elect. John Rocovich Jr. (GBUS '66), an attorney with Gardner, Moss & Rocovich, P.C. in Roanoke, is now vice president. The new officers' one-year terms extend to June 30, 1997.

Alumni association announces staff changes

Philip Spessard recently was named an associate director of the alumni association after almost two years in the assistant director position. His responsibilities, which have included alumni chapters, reunions, and the alumni records system, will be expanded to include coordinating reunions for class, college, and constituent groups.

Debbie Day Shelton (COMM '84, M.S. EDAC), who was formerly the assistant director serving in the Northern Virginia office, moved to the Blacksburg office two years ago and has been an associate director since June 1995. Her responsibilities expanded to include coordinating alumni chapter programs.

Robert H. Bailey Jr. (HPE '75) has been appointed an assistant director of alumni relations. His primary duties include chapter and reunion programming and the coordination of alumni association merchandising programs. He comes from Ferrum College, where he was director of admissions for the past 13 years. Bailey's father, uncle, and sister also graduated from Tech.

Nominate an Outstanding Young Alumna or Alumnus

The Virginia Tech Alumni Association invites you to nominate candidates for two awards presented each year to outstanding young alumni. These awards recognize one woman and one man who are leaders in their professions and communities. Alumni who have graduated in the past 10 years are eligible. For the 1996-97 awards, graduates of the classes of 1986 through 1995 will be considered.

Nominations are due by August 15 and should be mailed to Outstanding Young Alumni Awards, Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Alumni Hall, Blacksburg, VA 24061. Please include as much biographical information as possible about each nominee.

Homecoming Open House

The annual Alumni Registration and Open House will be held in Squires Student Center on Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. until noon. Drop in before or after the Homecoming parade to visit with our college representatives and alumni association staff.
