Additions to the alumni staff

Lane Guilliams (forestry '95) is the assistant director of alumni relations for the College of Natural Resources (CNR). Guilliams serves as liaison between the college and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Her responsibilities include planning and coordinating events for the college and assisting with Alumni Association events, including reunions and other special programs. Guilliams previously held positions with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Roanoke's Center in the Square, and Hollins University. She has also served on the CNR Advisory Board. After earning her bachelor's degree in forestry from Virginia Tech, she earned a master of arts from the University of Oklahoma. |

Josh Burnheimer (financial planning '08) is the assistant director of alumni relations. Burnheimer advises and provides administrative support to approximately 30 alumni chapters and clubs in Southwest Virginia, the western Mid-Atlantic states, and the lower Midwest states. He is also responsible for coordinating Alumni Association community service programs and individual chapter programs. Burnheimer has extensive experience with volunteer organizations dating back to high school. In college, he held leadership positions with numerous organizations, including the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, serving as director in 2007 when Virginia Tech was ranked second in the nation among colleges for the annual event after raising more than $294,000. Burnheimer continues to advise Relay For Life committees at both Radford University and Virginia Tech and has made presentations at national and regional American Cancer Society events.

New Alumni Association President Kevin W. Leclaire (economics and systems engineering '95), President-Elect Curry A. Roberts (political science '80), and Vice President Lance Smith (business '69) have begun one-year terms. Leclaire resides in Reston, Va., and is managing director of ISDR Consulting. Roberts lives in Richmond, Va., and is president of the State Fair of Virginia. Smith resides in Pinehurst, N.C., and is a retired four-star general who served as commander of the U.S. Joint Forces Command and as NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation.
Newly elected board members are Kendley J. Davenport (public administration '84), Lisa Glasscock Miller (veterinary medicine '87), Jean Skelton Montague (English '69), Jay S. Poole (agriculture education '78), A. Carole Pratt (biological sciences '72), and Philip S. Thompson (systems engineering '77).

Seeking Outstanding Recent Alumni Award nominations
The Alumni Association invites nominations for the 2009-10 Outstanding Recent Alumni Awards, which recognize professional achievement and leadership by alumni who have graduated during the past 10 years (1999-2009).
Nominations are due Sept. 1 and should be mailed to Outstanding Recent Alumni Awards, Holtzman Alumni Center (0102), Blacksburg, VA 24061.
